January 9, 2013, The Heartland Community College Alumni Association will host a unique event that couples vintage vinyl and various vinos in what could be a romantic evening for two or a gathering of friends to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

“Nothing provides the soundtrack to our lives or can take you back to a moment in time like a song,” said Colleen Reynolds, director of Alumni Relations and Outreach. “Combine that with a delicious glass of wine and you have the ingredients for a great time.”

Heartland’s “Vinyl and Vino” event will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 15 in the College’s Campus Café, located at 1500 W. Raab Road in Normal. Participants will be treated to an evening of music and fun, as well as several select wines – including some unique seasonal selections – from Heritage Wine Cellars. Wine can be sampled or purchased by the glass, and beer also will be available at a cash bar.

A $5 registration fee will go toward providing light appetizers, including cheese from Ropp Jersey Cheese and other samples of sweet treats. The event will also feature a door prize of Toffee for a Year from Colorado-based Simply Toffee. Participants are encouraged to bring their own vinyl records, which an in-house DJ will spin for the crowd. An open mic will allow event attendees to share their personal stories about their favorite songs, and a silent auction of assorted wines from Mackinaw Valley Vineyards will benefit the Alumni Scholarship Fund. This event is open to the entire community as well as HCC alumni.
