On a very tolerable December night, participants went out on the hospital's east-side patio. Hospital chaplain Rev. December 4, 2013, We will still be offering Treats with Santa again this year. Bring children wanting to talk to Santa to the Park District on Saturday, December 14. This event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude after the last child at 11:00 a.m. We will be offering Christmas games and a coloring contest along with milk and cookies. December 4, 2013, Lincoln Youth wrestling will be hosting the 10th annual Lincoln Railer Rumble youth wrestling tournament this coming Sunday December 8, 2013 at Lincoln Community High School. Over 400 youth wrestlers ages 4 to 14 from all over Central Illinois will be competing in 5 different age divisions in this Illinois Kid Wrestling Federation sanctioned event. December 3, 2013, Main Street Lincoln is gearing up for the City of Lincoln’s Annual Christmas Parade. The parade begins Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 5:30pm. As in recent years the route will start at the corner of S. Kickapoo and Wyatt before heading downtown around the square.
This year’s theme is “A Picture Perfect Christmas”. For one lucky little girl, this is sure to be just that. Main Street Lincoln hosted a Facebook contest which parents entered children’s names for a chance to ride in Santa’s sleigh. (Click for more)

The Lincoln College Chamber Choir and Chorale will present their annual Winter Concert on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnston Center for the Performing Arts on the Lincoln campus. December 2, 2013, By Mike Fak, Bob Huelskoetter sat in the lobby of Charron's Auto Repair talking about his retirement from the automotive supplies industry after 60 years. Still in good health with the same infectious laugh he has had his whole life, Bob seems fine with turning to a life of leisure after so many years on the road.
A familiar sight in the county for 60 year, Bob Huelsketter and his Bowes truck will no longer be making the rounds. Bob who is 85 said that his reaction time isn’t very good at his age and that driving on the highways isn’t something he should be doing anymore. (Click for more)

This year, the Elks honored deceased members: Mary Ellen Bruns, J. Patton Dellow, John McCullough, Robert Olson, Ralph Schmidt, John Welsh and Donald Workman. Between the members they had 268 total years of service to the Elks and the community. Pastor Henry Johnson from Jeff Street Christian Church delivered the Memorial Address. (Click for more)

November 3, 2013, LINCOLN – More than 2000 individuals and groups will be celebrated Tuesday night as families and friends gather for the 26th annual Light Up A Life program.
All are welcome to attend this year’s event, which will be held at ALMH on Tuesday, December 3, starting at 5:30 p.m.
Participants may gather inside the ALMH lobby, and then proceed to the hospital’s east-side patio. Once outside, they will light a candle, sing along with cherished Christmas tunes, and, if they wish, share the names of those they honored or memorialized. A complimentary soup and chili dinner will follow in the adjacent Woods Cafe. (Click for more)

After Jumping out to 10 point lead in the first 2:35 the Railers never looked back. Behind Edward Bolby's hot 3- point shooting and superb teamwork, the Railers won the game, 62-41, and improved their early season record to 3-0.

November 30, 2013, The Christmas cantata, “Send Me Back To Bethlehem”, will be presented by a 40-voice choir representing six local churches on December 15th. Directed by Larry Maffett and accompanied by Laura Lee, the cantata is co-sponsored by Immanuel Lutheran Church and St. John’s United Church of Christ. The cantata will be presented during the 10:30 a.m. worship service at St. John’s UCC and at 7:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The public is invited to attend either presentation.

Following the dramatic analysis and statistics revealed through the Route 66 Economic Impact Study of 2012, World Monuments Fund (WMF) convened a strategic roundtable to explore the sustainability of the highway as a cultural and recreational venue and an economic engine for the eight states the route passes through. The event, titled “The Road Ahead,” was held on November 20 and 21 at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California, close to Cars Land, a Disney venture inspired by Route 66. (Click for more)
November 30, 2013, Studies from India, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, the United States of America and other countries show that violence against women increases the risk of HIV infection. A recent study of young women in South Africa showed that HIV negative women who had experienced intimate partner violence or high levels of gender inequality in their relationships with men were 51% more likely to acquire HIV over the next two years.
November 29, 2013, WASHINGTON, IL – Governor Pat Quinn, Congressman Aaron Schock, Washington Mayor Gary Manier and Chicago Blackhawks President & CEO John McDonough joined together to host a Thanksgiving Luncheon for victims of the recent tornadoes and their families. The luncheon - sponsored by the Chicago Blackhawks Charities - was also a way to thank first-responders and volunteers who have worked around the clock since the severe storms touched down on Nov. 17. Last night, President Barack Obama approved the Governor’s expedited request for federal assistance to help people and businesses in Washington and across 15 Illinois counties recover from the deadly tornadoes. Studies have shown that some children exposed to violence between parents have more social, emotional, behavioral, cognitive and general health problems than children from families where there was no violence between partners.
