Bridge fault meant musical trains for passengers last night
September 4, 2013, An Amtrak train that left Chicago Tuesday afternoon was on its way to Dallas when it became delayed near Lincoln.
Union Pacific says a contractor noticed a defect on the Salt Creek Bridge and it was shut down to make repairs.
The train (#21) sat in Lincoln from 5:30 until 11:30 and was then turned loose. Amtrak 305, which followed the Texas train, dropped off riders in Lincoln and then riders bussed to Springfield, and 304's passengers, held up in Springfield ,were brought to Lincoln and then 305 became 304 and went to Chicago.
They originally were going to pull the Texas train - - 21 back to Chicago, but when repairs were to be made by 11:30, they left it in Lincoln. A "Slow" order is still in place on the bridge south of Lincoln -
