Congressman Schock visits downtown Lincoln
August 16, 2013, Slideshow By Mike Fak, It was obvious something was going on downtown Thursday morning. The Pulaski Street parking places that usually are at a premium were non-existent by 8:45. The reason was 18th District of Illinois Congressman Aaron Schock was coming to have a town hall meeting at Mama's Cafe.
By the time Schock arrived at 9:30 am, more than 200 had filled the popular eatery and spilled out into the arcade area.
For an hour and a half the congressman fielded written questions ranging from Social Security, to healthcare to the national debt.
The crowd was predominantly Republican but a few of other persuasions were on hand to listen and answer their curiosities about Schock who has been a popular congressman in central Illinois.
The Congressman has been using the vacation time from Washington during August to travel around his district and to meet constituents, addressing and finding out their concerns.
The crowd might have surpassed last year's Agriculture Summit which Schock held at the much larger Lincoln College Lincoln Center.
