Sara Buchanan awarded Legion Auxiliary Scholarship
July 22, 2013, Sara Buchanan of Lincoln was awarded a nurses scholarship of $1,000 at the American Legion Auxiliary Department Convention in Springfield. She is the daughter of Joe and Melanie Shafer of Lincoln. Sara was sponsored by the Logan #263 American Legion Unit of Lincoln.

Sarah will be starting her sophomore year this fall as a nursing major at Bradley University in Peoria. Following her completion of becoming a Registered Nurse, she plans to apply for work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Children’s Hospital in Peoria. Her goal is to become a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.
At Bradley, Sara is involved in the Student Nursing Assocaition and Nursing Christian Fellowship. She is also a member of Kappa Delta Sorority where she serves as house manager, assistant recruitment chair and retreat leader. Sara is an associate member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Additionally, Sara attended Lincoln Christian Church and volunteers at Northwoods Community Church. During Spring Break she was a member of the STLF (Students Today Leaders Forever) which toured several states volunteering on community projects and homeless shelters.
